Hillsboro Fire Chief Ben Steketee (center) accepts a ceremonial check for $20,000 from Jim Sloan, senior vice president of IMA of Kansas Inc., and Stephanie M. Johnson, community relations manager for Fireman’s Fund. The money has been used to purchase equipment for the department, including light-weight air tanks, buddy-breather equipped air packs that allow rescuers to supply needed air to immobilized firefighters while not compromising their own safety, and voice amplified masks to aid communication on the scene. IMA of Kansas Inc. is the insurer for the city of Hillsboro and recommended the city for the grant money from Fireman’s Fund.
