HHS hoops teams hammer Haven

The Hillsboro Trojan basketball teamswere less than congenial hosts Tuesday as both the girls and boys finished with double-digit victories over the Wildcats.



In the girls’ game, Amy Neufeld came off the bench to lead a balanced scoring attack with 12 points and help the Trojans to a 54-23 victory. Hannah Marsh added 10 points and JuliAnne Chisholm and Tina Frick each scored 8 as the Trojans improved to 11-2 on the season.



Hillsboro led from the start and had leads of 17-7, 34-14, and 47-21 at the quarter breaks.



The Hillsboro boys, meanwhile, got off to a slow start but pulled their game together in fine fashion to claim a 43-26 victory.



Struggling to score against Haven’s zone, Hillsboro trailed 9-4 after one quarter. But the Trojans began attacking more aggressively in the second period and pulled into a 21-19 lead by halftime.



The game really turned in the third quarter as Hillsboro outscored the visitors 22-7. Hillsboro led by as many as 21 points in the final frame.



The win improves Hillsboro’s record to 6-7 for the season.
