The Hillsboro boys came back from a disappointing defeat on Tuesday to beat Wamego, 52-43, on Thursday night in the semifinals of the Trojan Classic consolation semifinals.
On Thursday, the Trojans battled well all four quarters against an energized Red Raider squad. By the end of the first period, Hillsboro led 12-8 and then held a 27-25 edge at halftime. Lucas Hamm, who sat out several minutes of the half after picking up his second foul, still scored 15 points by intermission.
Hillsboro extended its lead to 39-32 after three quarters and ended up with the nine-point victory despite some spotty free-throw shooting during the final frame.
Hamm led all scorers with 20 points, while Daniel Jost added 13. Hillsboro shot 54 percent from the floor for the game while holding the Red Raiders to 36 percent. Brent Trudo led Wamego wiith 11 points.
The win puts Hillsboro (4-5) in the fifth-place game against Sunrise Academy at 1:15 p.m. Saturday in Brown Gymnasium.
