Earl Bartel

Earl G. Bartel, 80, retired farmer and house mover, died Jan. 6 at Bethesda Home in Goessel.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, at Trinity Mennonite Church in Hillsboro with pastor Dave Plett officiating. Burial will be at 10 a.m. at French Creek Cemetery in rural Hillsboro.

He was born Sept. 26, 1926, to Emil F. and Martha (Duerksen) Bartel in Hillsboro. On Oct. 7, 1947, he was married to Elizabeth Schroeder, who died in 2002.

He is survived by three sons, Donnivon of Burrton, Glenn of Wichita and Scott of Hillsboro; two daughters, Sharon Tomlinson of Wichita and Darlene Ediger of Hesston; a sister, Frieda Wall of Hillsboro; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial has been established with Union Rescue Mission in care of Jost Funeral Home in Hillsboro.

Pearl Buchanan

Pearl Anna Buchanan, 90, died Jan. 6 at Bethesda Home in Goessel.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, at Baker Funeral Home in Peabody with chaplain Peter Hartman officiating. Burial will be at Andover Cemetery.

She was born March 17, 1916, to Bird S. and Annie Candace Tribble near Augusta. She was married to Doyle Ruggles, who predeceased her. In 1961, she was married to Olen Lester Buchanan, who survives.

She is also survived by a son, Raymond and Ilene Ruggles of Wichita; two daughters, Patricia and Byron Shipman of Wichita and Joyce and Bobby Crawford of Greenbriar, Ark.; a stepson, Anthony Buchanan of Peabody; a stepdaughter, Terri Williams of Andover; and many grandchildren, step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Monica Cameron

Mary Monica (Farrell) Cameron, 87, former dietician, died Dec. 31 at Lakeview Village in Lenexa.

She was born May 26, 1919, to Arthur James and Rose Ella (Dolan) Farrell in Herington.

She is survived by a daughter, Ann Holt of Marion.

Funeral arrangement were made by McGilley & Hoge Johnson County Memorial Chapel in Overland Park.

Albert Fadenrecht

Albert Fadenrecht, 93, retired minister, died Jan. 7 at Salem Nursing Home in Hillsboro.

Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Cemetery. The service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Durham with pastor Curtis Wiens officiating.

He was born June 11, 1913, to Bernard B. and Helen (Hiebert) Fadenrecht in rural Munich, N.D. On June 11, 1944, he was married to Virginia Harman, who survives in Hillsboro.

He is also survived by a son, Daryl Kent of Wichita.

Memorials have been established with the Gideons and First Baptists Church in Durham in care of Jost Funeral Home in Hillsboro.

Elma Funk

Elma Funk, 93, died Jan. 5 at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro.

The service was held Jan. 9 at Trinity Mennonite Church in Hillsboro with pastor Tim Kliewer officiating. Burial was at Haven of Rest Cemetery in rural Hillsboro.

She was born Jan. 9, 1913, to Jacob L. and Lena (Unruh) Jantz in Hillsboro. On Aug. 4, 1935, she was married to Edwin Funk, who died in 2005.

She is survived by three sons, Virgil and Joyce of Topeka, Loren and Heleen of Hillsboro and Gordon and Delores of Wichita; a daughter, Violet and Jerry Dalke of Hillsboro; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Schmidt and Gladys Jantz, both of Newton; nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

A memorial has been established with Trinity Mennonite Church in care of Jost Funeral Home in Hillsboro.

Kerwin Jantz

Kerwin K. Jantz, 87, retired machinist, died Jan. 5 at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita.

The service was held Jan. 9 at Faith Mennonite Church in Newton with pastor Gordon Smith officiating. Burial was at Restlawn Garden of Memory in rural Newton.

He was born Feb. 14, 1919, to Emil M. and Sarah Jane (Holdeman) Jantz in Goessel. He was married to Rosella Janzen, who died in 1980. On April 26, 1981, he was married to Elda (Koehn) Siemens, who survives in Newton.

He is also survived by a son, Donald R. of Albuquerque, N.M.; a daughter, Carol Friesen of Newton; three stepsons, Robert Siemens of rural Sedgwick, Harvey Siemens of Valley Center and Dennis Siemens of Newton; a stepdaughter, Carol Hiebert of Newton; a sister, Beryl Isaak of Inman; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren and 22 step-great-grandchildren.

Memorials have been established with the Faith Mennonite Church Landscaping Fund and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in care of Miller Funeral Home in Newton.

Harry Nelson

Harry E. Nelson, 89, former aircraft worker and owner/operator of Marion Mattress Co., died Jan. 4 in Marion.

The service was held Jan. 8 at St. Mark Catholic Church, Holy Family Parish in Marion with Father Paul Oborny officiating. Burial was in Marion Cemetery.

He was born Sept. 4, 1917, to Fred and Ellen (Duell) Nelson near Ruleton. On April 11, 1944, he was married to Lorene Holub, who died on Dec. 4.

He is survived by two sons, Jerry of Marion and Fred of Hutchinson; three daughters, Sharon Ball of Las Vegas, Nev., Pat Bina of rural Marion and Robin of Newton; a brother, Carl of rural Goodland; two sisters, Esther Peter and Lucille Nash, both of Goodland; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial has been established with Harry Hynes Hospice in care of Zeiner Funeral Home in Marion.

Wally Schultz

Wally Schultz, 54, architect, died Dec. 28 in rural Newton.

The service was held Jan. 2 at Miller Funeral Home in Hesston with pastor Garvie Schmidt officiating.

He was born April 26, 1952, to Robert H. and Luella N. (Harms) Schultz in Akron, Colo. He was married to Beth Miller, who died in 1999.

He is survived by two sons, Chase Loring of Lawrence and Ian Lane of the home; a brother, Lendell of Hillsboro; and a sister, Sandra Schmidt of Hillsboro.

Memorials have been established with the Schultz Scholarship Fund and Bethesda Home in Goessel.

Malinda Suderman

Malinda Suderman, 86, retired office assistant, died Jan. 8 at Hillsboro Community Medical Center.

Visitation with family will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, at Jost Funeral Home in Hillsboro.

Burial will be at 1 p.m. Jan. 11 at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Cemetery. The service will be at 2 p.m. at Ebenfeld Mennonite Brethren Church in rural Hillsboro with pastor Dave Plett officiating.

She was born Sept. 8, 1920, to Jacob F. and Agatha Julie (Hiebert) Suderman in Hillsboro.

She is survived by a brother, Paul of Hillsboro; and a sister, Laura Goertzen of Aurora, Neb.

A memorial has been established with the Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church Building Fund.

George Thye

George R. Thye, 92, retired owner/operator of Miller, Hughes & Thye, died Jan. 7 at Cedars Health Care Center in McPherson.

The service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, at First Baptist Church in McPherson with pastor Les Cantrell officiating. Burial will be at McPherson Cemetery.

He was born Feb. 1, 1914, to George and Marie (Moehlman) Thye in rural Hillsboro. On June 9, 1935, he was married to Mildred Lucille Dahlinger, who died in 2005.

He is survived by a son, Max W. of Kansas City, Mo.; a daughter, Barbara A. of McPherson; a sister, Janet Keazer of Marion; a daughter-in-law, Jane of St. Maarten, Netherlands Antilles; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial has been established with First Baptist Church in McPherson in care of Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home in McPherson.
