HHS opens 2007 with wins over Hoisington

The Hillsboro High basketball teams started the new calendar year in good form, taking a pair of relatively comfortable wins from Hoisington Friday (Jan. 5) at Brown Gymnasium.

The Hillsboro girls handed the Cardinals their first loss of the season, 39-22. JuliAnne Chisholm scored 15 of her game-high 17 points in the first half, while Hoisington made only four of 24 shots from the field enabling the Trojans to grab a 26-8 lead at intermission. The only real question after that was what the final margin might be. But coach Dale Honeck substituted freely throughout the half and the Trojans cruised home with a 17-point margin.

The win improves Hillsboro’s record to 6-1.

The boys, meanwhile, slowly but steadily pulled away from their guests. Hillsboro led 12-7 after one quarter and 29-17 by intermission. Hillsboro’s biggest lead was 21 points early in the fourth quarter. Lucas Hamm scored 14 points and Troy Frick added 12 to help the Trojans improve to 3-4 for the season.
