Six Bluebirds feted by newspapers

Six members of the Goessel High School football team have been recognized by area newspapers for all-state honors.

The Hutchinson News honored Garrett Hiebert (first team), Brett Goerzen (third team), Grady Stultz, Bubba Holder, Sheldon Goerzen and Alex Drake with selections to its Elite 8 team.

Hiebert and Brett Goerzen received honorable mention by the Wichita Eagle and Topeka Capital Journal. The Wichita Eagle also selected Holder as an honorable mention.

Hiebert, Brett Goerzen, Stultz, and Sheldon Goerzen were all first-team all-Heart of America league selections.

Goessel went 8-2 during the 2006 season. The Bluebirds won the Heart of America eight-man title and clinched a district championship with a victory over top-ranked Claflin.
