Marion council approves wage increase for staff

ORIGINALLY WRITTEN JERRY ENGLER
After an hour of executive session for personnel following the regular meeting, the Marion City Council, with no explanation, voted 3-2 to keep four employees in current positions with 4.5 percent cost of living raises.

The employees were City Administrator David Mayfield, Police Chief Michel Soyez, Economic Director Jami Williams and Clerk Angela Lange.

Mayor Martin Tice and councilors Gene Winkler and Stacey Collett voted for the measure, while councilors Bill Holdeman and Jerry Kline voted against it.

In another vote, the council voted 4-1, Tice against and the other four for, to change Williams from a contractural basis to an appointed position.

A more complete council report will appear in next week’s paper.
