Canton-Galva goes unbeaten for the week

Canton Galva-The boys’ team picked up a 47-25 win over Ell-Saline on Friday to go with a 46-25 win over Hutch Trinity on Tuesday.

Tied at six after one quarter against Ell-Saline, the Eagles posted a shutout in the second quarter and built a 13-point lead going into halftime.

Outmatched on the perimeter, Ell-Saline turned the ball over 25 times and gave up 16 steals.

Against Hutch Trinity, the Eagles’ forwards dominated the boards 31-18 and limited Celtic post player Jason Goertz’s effectiveness.

Joel Hardman led Canton-Galva with a two-game total of 29 points.

The Canton-Galva girls grabbed two victories this week: a 47-45 overtime victory over Ell-Saline on Friday and a 42-36 win over Hutch Trinity on Tuesday.

The CGHS teams were scheduled to wrap up 2006 with a visit to Little River on Tuesday. The Eagles return to action with a trip to Inman Jan. 5.

Centre-The Cougar boys split two games this week, losing 76-50 at home on Friday to Wakefield after thrashing Xavier 103-24 on Tuesday.

Alfonse Klenda scored 21 points against Wakefield. No other Cougar broker double-digits.

Klenda scored 14 against St. Xavier, as did Ben Krause. Three other Cougars struck for more than 10 points: James Weber (22), Bryant Brunner (22) and Thieen Antoszyk (11).

The CHS girls defeated Wakefield on Friday, 60-36.

Centre’s final game before the break comes in the form of a Thursday-night home matchup against White City; tip time is set for 6 p.m. The Cougar’s first games after the break are scheduled for Jan. 5 at Elyria.

Goessel-The Goessel boys improved their record and showed a bit of dominance in two wins last week.

With a 26-point third quarter on Friday, the Bluebirds blew past the Hutch Trinity Celtics, 61-46.

Tuesday’s win was a 51-42 flyover of the Berean Warriors.

For the week, Garrett Hiebert totaled 31 points and 20 rebounds.

Travis Buller (12 points), Jordan Voth (12) and Nathan Amstutz (10) all tallied in double-figures against the Celtics.

The GHS girls absorbed a 35-20 loss against Hutch Trinity.

To wrap up 2006, Goessel went on the road against Peabody-Burns Dec. 19. The Bluebirds return to action Jan. 5 contest at Bennington.

Peabody-Burns-The Warrior girls lost to Little River 54-19 on Friday after defeating Sedgwick 51-48 on Tuesday.

The boys’ team defeated Little River, 58-48. With the game even at 37-37 after three quarters, the Warriors unleashed a 21-point fourth quarter to secure the victory.

Peabody-Burns was scheduled to host Goessel on Tuesday. PBHS returns to action on Jan. 5 against Moundridge.
