Raymond Bain

Raymond Forest Bain, 96, electrician and plumber, died Nov. 11 at Wheat State Manor in Whitewater.

The service was Nov. 15 at Baker Funeral Home in Peabody with David Ragland officiating. Burial was in Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Peabody.

He was born Oct. 16, 1910, to Benton and Clara May (Gibson) Bain in Florence. On. Oct. 16, 1938, he was married to Esther Rempel, who died in 1997.

He is survived by two sons, Gerald Ray of Benton and Roger Wayne of Emmett, Idaho; two daughters, Norma Jean Sauer of Herington and Judith Kay Webb of Wichita; a sister, Doris Poland of Roseberg, Ore.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and three great-great- grandchildren.

Memorials have been established with Hospice Care of Kansas in North Newton, Peabody Christian Church and Wheat State Manor.

Esther Ewert

Esther Ewert, 93, homemaker, died Nov. 16 in Hillsboro.

The service was held Nov. 20 at Johannestal Cemetery in rural Hillsboro with pastor Tim Kliewer of Trinity Mennonite Church of Hillsboro officiating.

She was born April 19, 1913, to Peter P. and Elizabeth (Penner) Funk in Hillsboro. On July 28, 1959, she was married to Menno Ewert, who died in 1986.

She is survived by a daughter, Mary and Ed Smith of Walton; and three sisters, Edna Gaede of Hillsboro, Luella Stucky of Hutchinson and Marie Boldt of Reedley, Calif.

A memorial has been established with Mennonite Central Committee in care of Jost Funeral Home of Hillsboro.

Emma Meinen

Emma Meinen, 91, homemaker, died Nov. 13 at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro.

The service was held Nov. 16 at LaCrosse City Cemetery with pastor Bruce Adamson officiating.

She was born Aug. 18, 1915, to John and Elizabeth (Helm) Meinen in Talmage, Neb.

She is survived by two nieces, Sharon Siebert of Hillsboro and Lisa Rogers of Terlton, Okla.; and three nephews, Russell Meinen of Arkansas City, Larry Meinen of McPherson and Gary Meinen of Manvel, Texas.

A memorial has been established with Parkside Homes in care of Zeiner Funeral Home in Marion.

Lois Raleigh

Lois Jeanne Raleigh, 80, retired employee of A.L. Duckwall stores, died Nov. 6 in Marion.

She was born Jan. 29, 1926, to Earl and Blanche Kelsey. On March 31, 1942, she was married to William Hurshel Raleigh, who predeceased her.

She is survived by a son, Robert Hurshel and Mary Raleigh of Marion; a daughter-in-law, Winona Raleigh of Wichita; a sister, Treva and Jack Kerbs of Marion; two brothers, Forrest and Beatrice Kelsey of Marion and Keith and Clara Kelsey of Dewey, Okla.; two sisters-in-law, Viola Kelsey of Marion and Elsie Kelsey of Holton; a brother-in-law, Daniel Helmer of Tulsa, Okla.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorials have been established with Marion Christian Church and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in care of Zeiner Funeral Home in Marion.

Helen Reiswig

Helen G. Reiswig, 89, former Cessna upholsterer, died Nov. 18 at Kountze, Texas.

Visitation is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, at Zeiner Funeral Home in Marion. The service will be held at 2 p.m. with pastor Carl Helm officiating. Burial will follow at Marion Cemetery.

She was born May 5, 1917, to Clark and Martha Schlotthauer Johnston in Marion. She was married to Leo Reiswig, who died in 1983.

She is survived by two daughters, Geraldine Schuster of Sour Lake, Texas, and Elaine Budde of Claremore, Okla.; a brother, Walter Johnston of Grove, Okla.; two sisters, Josephine Stroda of Marion and Elnora Siemens of Salina; seven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Fred Roberts

Fred Marvin Roberts, 89, retired employee of Beech Aircraft Corp., died Nov. 15 in Paola.

Services were held Nov. 18 at Parkerville Baptist Church. Burial was in Parkerville Cemetery.

He was born April 9, 1917, to Fred James and Lala Ruth (Cochran) Roberts in Sylvan Park. On Feb. 7, 1941, he was married to Mary Augusta Holm, who predeceased him

He is survived by three sons, Marvin and Donna of Lane, Gary and Ann of Newton and Gerry and Tracy of Moundridge; a daughter, Carolyn and Harvey Ray of Hillsboro; three brothers, Glenn of Hutchinson and Robert and Kenneth, both of Council Grove; two sisters, Marjorie Casey of Council Grove and Janice Long of dumas, Texas; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Memorials have been established with Parkerville Baptist Church and Hospice Care of Kansas in care of Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home in Council Grove.

Dennis Wasserman

Dennis L. Wasserman, 69, construction senior superintendent for Butler Construction, died Nov. 11 at Kindred Hospital in Oklahoma City, Okla.

The service was Nov. 16 at Olson’s Mortuary in Canton with Richard Brooks officiating. Burial was in Canton Township Cemetery.

He was born March 8, 1937, to Herbert and Christena Lottman Wasserman in Odell, Neb. On Dec. 31, 1961, he was married to Elizabeth L’Jeanne “Bette” Bair in Canton. She survives in El Reno, Okla.

He is also survived by a son, DelRon of El Reno; a brother, Leo of Byers, Colo.; two sisters, Linda Pethoud of Harlan, Iowa, and Marian Niday of Beatrice, Neb.; three grandsons and one great-granddaughter.

Memorials have been established with the American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association.

Beatrice Wentworth

Beatrice Allen Wentworth, 88, retired employee of Peabody school system, died Nov. 12 in Peabody

The service was Nov. 16 at Baker Funeral Home in Peabody with pastor James Pohlman officiating.

She was born Nov. 11, 1918, to Grover and Alta (Wiesner) Allen. On June 19, 1940, she was married to Walter H. Wentworth, who predeceased her.

She is survived by a daughter, Shirley Herbison of Newton; a sister, Wilma Orpin of Newton; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial has been established with the American Lung Association.
