The Kansas Department of Health and Environment Division of Health, Center for Health and Environmental Statistics announces a reconfiguration of its health data and statistical office.

Effective Monday, Oct. 9, the Office of Health Care Information became the Office of Health Assessment.

During its 13-year tenure, the Office of Health Care Information focused on disseminating health information acquired from vital events records, health professions and hospital discharge data and created an Internet query site, Kansas Information for Communities, to improve access to health data and information.

In addition, OHCI provided data collection, standardization and reporting processes for the Kansas Insurance Information System.

“With the creation of the Kansas Health Policy Authority, KDHE’s responsibilities for data collection were transferred, creating the opportunity for KDHE to better utilize the health data available about Kansans,” said Howard Rodenberg, director of the Division of Health.

The new Office of Health Assessment will expand its efforts in health data analysis and dissemination for policymakers, program managers and the public by improving data linkage opportunities within confidentiality guidelines, expanding publication of health data relevant to Kansas and increasing capacity for geographic displays of health data.

For more information, contact the office at 785-296-8627 or www.kdheks.gov/ohci.
