The Tabor College women’s cross country team placed third in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference meet while the men placed fourth. Sterling hosted the meet on Saturday.

Women’s teams from Southwestern and Kansas Wesleyan tied for the conference title, while Tabor finished only 14 points behind.

“We had been running a solid third all season, and our goal for the conference meet was to close the gap. We accomplished that,” coach Karol Hunt said.

Four Bluejays earned all-conference honors by finishing the 5-kilometer race in the top 15: Sarah Fogle (4th, 19:47), Shelby Miller (ninth, 21:02), Heidi Schmidt (10th, 21:04) and Amber Wiens (11th, 21:09).

“Sarah was only 34 seconds behind the race winner,” Hunt said. “Two weeks ago at the Mid-States meet, she was 1:36 behind the same runner.

The Bluejay men improved their conference finish from fifth a year ago. Dan Sigley completed the 8-kilometer men’s race in 29:05 and earned all-conference honors with a 14th-place finish.

Caleb Schroeder finished 17th in 29:28. He was followed by Zac Remboldt (25th, 30:11), Kyle Larson (26th, 30:16), Jeff Anenson (34th, 30:56), Ric Johnson (36th, 31:15), Brandon Voth (42nd, 32:12), Kevin Larson (43rd, 32:22), and Will Higerd (47th, 32:47, 47th).

“I was also pleased with the men’s races today,” Hunt said. “It’s a real credit to this group to place fourth.”

Tabor runners now look ahead to the Region IV meet hosted by Southwestern on Saturday. The women will run at 10:30 a.m., with the men at 11:15.
