Aaron Stepanek ran the opening kickoff back for a touchdown, and that set the tone for the evening as Hillsboro rolled to a 38-0 win over Marion on the opening night of district play Friday at Reimer Field.
The Trojans followed up with two more touchdowns in the first quarter, one on a 12-yard run by Michael Suderman and the other on a 45-yard run by Lucas Hamm.
Leading 21-0 going into the second quarter, the Trojans added a 16-yard touchdown pass from Spencer Brown to Suderman, and then scored on a 31-yard run by Jacob Yoder. Tyler Kaufman added Hillsboro’s first field goal in recent memory — a 31-yarder with 1 second left in the half — to give Hillsboro a 38-0 lead at the break.
The continuous clock ran the entire second half.
With the win, Hillsboro improves to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in district play while Marion falls to 2-5 and 0-1.
