Going, Going … Old city swimming pool bites the dust

As the warning along the rim of the pool states, there will be no more diving at the old Municipal Swimming Pool in Hillsboro. Workers from Middlecreek Corp of Peabody began demolishing the old pool Monday morning. Built in 1955, the facility was abandoned this summer with the completion of the new Family Aquatic Center along West D Street. Frank Ousler of Middlecreek Corp. said he thought the demolition and cleanup of the old pool would be completed by Wednesday evening. The city has not announced its intentions for the vacated area of Memorial Park. In the left photo, one friendly crab face won’t be smiling for long.
