Centre volleyball improves to 7-3 mark

The Centre volleyball team took both matches at Flint Hills Sept. 5 to boost its overall record to 4-1.

Kylie Burhoop served four aces and Alyssa Luna added six kills as the Cougars won, 25-23, 25-18.

Centre’s second opponent, St. Xavier, struggled to return the Cougars’ serves. Jessica Deines had five aces and Burhoop, Amy Hajek and Bridgette Burns had 4 apiece. Three others served aces on the way to a 25-11, 25-8 win.

On Sept. 9, CHS hosted the its own invitational, where Yvonne Burhoop’s squad defeated Marion (25-21, 25-19), Herington (25-10, 25-23) and Hope (25-20, 25-21) but lost to Council Grove (17-25, 15-25) and Little River (23-25, 24-26).

The victory over Hope gave the Cougars third place, and Little River defeated Council Grove (25-23, 25-17) to take the championship.

Kylie Burhoop was selected for the all-tournament team after turning in 24 aces and 17 kills.

The tournament results raised Centre’s varsity volleyball record to 7-3 for the season.
