The Goessel High School football team opened its fall schedule with a 66-22 rout of Norwich.
Behind 202 total yards from senior Garrett Hiebert, the Bluebird offense could not be stopped.
Hiebert completed six of 11 passes for 157 yards and five touchdowns and ran for 45 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries.
As a team, Goessel ran for 237 yards and three touchdowns on 31 carries.
Running backs Travis Fensky, Cameron Stultz and Brett Goerzen each ran for more than 50 yards; Fensky and Goerzen scored rushing touchdowns.
Goerzen added three receptions, 58 receiving yards and a touchdown catch to his rushing total.
Wide receiver Sheldon Goerzen had 94 yards and three touchdowns on three catches; he also carried the ball once and for 38 yards and a fourth touchdown.
“We played well, found where we need to improve,” head coach Justin Coup said. “Next week at Hartford we had better be ready to play.
“It was a great first night.”
