The Centre Cougars and the Canton-Galva Eagles volleyball teams played their season-opening matches Aug. 29 at the Centre Quad.
Inman and Elyria Christian also competed.
Centre started the night with a 25-20, 25-21 victory over Elyria and followed with a 26-24, 25-19 win over Canton-Galva.
The Cougars ended the night by losing to Inman 16-25, 17-25.
Senior Alisha Barney led the Centre squad with 12 kills and 8 blocks, Alyssa Luna added 11 kills and junior setter Samantha Alvarez had 43 assists.
The Eagles began with a 20-25, 16-25 loss to Inman and ended with a 25-17, 25-14 victory over Elyria.
Juniors Kaycie Shearer and Kylie Haines led Canton-Galva in kills with 14 and eight, respectively. Fellow junior Ashley Vogts turned in 20 assists and senior Cassandra Smith added 17.
Canton-Galva was scheduled to play its home opener at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5. They will compete at the Goessel Invitational on Saturday with matches starting at 9 a.m. The Eagles will compete in a triangular at Little River starting at 4 p.m Tuesday.
Centre was scheduled to play at the Flint Hills Triangular on Tuesday, then will play host at their own invitational tournament on Saturday. Matches will begin at 9 a.m. On Tuesday they will compete at the Elyria Christian Triangular with action starting at 4:30 p.m.
