Cottonwood Fall team wins Classic

A team from Cottonwood Falls won the sixth annual Hillsboro Community Medical Center Charity Golf Classic at the Hillsboro Municipal Golf Course Aug. 11.

Nineteen teams participated in the four-person scramble.

Members of the team that shot the winning score of 56 in the championship flight were Russ Mildwald, Ed Linhard, Tom Roble and Cecil Lane.

Second place went to the Cooonrod & Associates team of Ray Penner, Ben Wolfington, Brennan Stubers and John Drake.

Capturing third was the team of Johnson & Bartel from Hillsboro: Ric and Ken Johnson and Bruce and Pat Bartel.

In the first flight, first place went to Tom Faulkner, Tracey Faulkner, Tony Kruse and Kary Nuse with a 63.

Second place went to a team from Tabor College: Clint Seibel, Herb Wiebe, Steve Berg and Lawrence Ressler.

Third place went to a team from Sonic Drive-In: Trent Elmquist, Gary Elmquist, Jason Elmquist and Larry Elmquist.

Winners of the second flight were team members Layne Reusser, Steve Brodie, Mark Schulte and Troy Jordan.

Second place went to Carl and Jane Long and Larry and Judy Klein.

Third place went to a team representing Cooperative Grain & Supply and Countryside Feed: Lyman Adams, Steve Hornbuckle, Kyle Cederberg and DeLayne Herbel.

Proceeds from the tournament will be used to purchase a backup generator for HCMC.

According to hospital officials, the ice storm of 2005, and other power outages, demonstrated that the current generator would not be able to keep up with HCMC’s needs during a prolonged electrical loss.
