MCSEC board will meet Aug. 21

The Marion County Special Education Cooperative board of directors will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 21, in the MCSEC conference room at 302 W. Eighth in Florence.

Volunteers, vendors needed for fest

Organizers for the 20th annual Lincolnville Octoberfest are requesting crafters and flea market vendors and volunteers from the community to help with the festivities scheduled for Oct. 7.

The event will include live entertainment, a parade, door prizes, children’s games, play equipment and food. The evening will end with a dance and celebration at Bailey’s Tavern on Main Street.

Venders can fill 10×10 booth spaces for $20 in the Lincolnville City Park.

Volunteers can help in one or two-hour time slots throughout the day, including Fun Run registration, parade lineup, carnival games, setup, cleanup and serving food.

Canton inside picnic at senior center

An inside picnic supper will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, at the Canton Senior Center.

The menu will include hamburgers, Polish sausage, potato salad, baked beans, watermelon and tea or coffee.

Donations will be taken.

HCMC info meeting planned for Aug. 15

An informational meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, for Hillsboro Community Medical Center volunteers and auxiliary in the HCMC conference room.

County firefighters plan gift drawing

Marion County firefighters are now selling tickets for a drawing as this year’s fund-raiser.

Prizes include a La-Z-Boy recliner, rifles and even a chance for one child to ride on a fire truck and push the button to begin the fireworks display on Labor Day weekend.

The drawings will take place at the firefighter fund-raiser on Sunday, Sept. 3 at the Marion County Lake.

Donations are also being accepted, with contributors of $20 or more receiving a firefighter magnet.

MOPs to hold open house Aug. 19

An open house and registration for Mothers of Pre-schoolers will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 19 at Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church basement at 610 S. Main in Hillsboro.

All mothers of newborns of kindergarteners are invited to attend.

Haywood takes new position

Richard W. Haywood will no longer maintain an itinerant schedule for veterans in the area, effective Aug. 11.

He has taken a position as department service officer for the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Wichita.

Haywood said it has been his great pleasure to have served the veterans and their families these past 12 years.
