George Carlin, Grammy-winning Irish-American standup comedian, actor and author will appear at the Stiefel Theatre for the Performing Arts in Salina at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 10.

A revolutionary stand-up comedian on social commentary, Carlin performs 90 concerts each year around the country, selling nearly a quarter of a million tickets. For more than four decades, Carlin has used his humor to point out hypocrisy in people’s actions and words.

Carlins’s 13th HBO comedy special, titled “George Carlin: Life Is Worth Losing,” premiered Nov. 5, 2005. A DVD and CD of the show followed in January 2006, bringing his album total to 25, including compilations and books on tape.

Carlin’s third book, “When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops?” was published by Hyperion in fall 2004 and is now out in paperback. “When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops?” was No. 2 on the New York Times Best Sellers List and was banned by Wal-Mart.

Carlin’s previous books include the New York Times Best Sellers “Brain Droppings” and “Napalm & Silly Putty.” Also in 2004, Carlin co-starred in the Kevin Smith movie “Jersey Girl,” his 11th feature film.
