USD 410 board approves amended ’06-’07 budget

The Unified School District 410 Board of Education met briefly for a special meeting Monday evening.

The agenda dealt with two issues: a public hearing and approval of the amended budget for the 2005-06 school year; and renewal of classified contracts for 2006-07.

No one from the public was present to address the budget.

Superintendent Gordon Mohn said the amendments will not result in tax increases, but rather affect transfers for three accounts-food service, professional development and vocational education.

“To be honest, we just cut them too short this year,” Mohn said.

The amended budget, which transferred $23,000 to those accounts, was approved 5-0.

The board also voted 5-0 to renew classified contracts as presented, with the 2006-07 pay rates remaining the same as 2005-06, except for two employees, Leslie Beery, director of Parents as Teachers, and Karen Elliot, educator with Parents as Teachers. Their increases, due to rearranged staffing hours, are paid from the PAT budget and will not affect the district’s budget, Mohn said.

Current contracts for classified employees expire July 1. Because school funding legislation is not yet settled, the board will wait to establish pay rates for 2006-07, Mohn said.
