On the cutting edge

Parkside Home’s program of dedication Sunday for its two new Park Homes is another milestone on the path toward cutting-edge care for our elders. The innovative home-like design of the ranch-style structures, when combined with a resident-first approach to management and planning, should give seniors living there the dignity, respect and privacy they deserve.

Congratulations to the Parkside Homes board, administration and staff for this significant accomplishment. Hillsboro Community Medical Center Long Term Care Unit is well into establishing the resident-first philosophy, and with major facility renovations in the planning stages there, Hillsboro can boast of having two of Kansas’s most progressive providers of elder care. -DR

Very pleasant surprise

Reports of better-than-expected yields in the early stages of the 2006 wheat harvest is good news not only for our hard-working farmers, who deserve some good fortune in a tough economic climate, but also for all of us who live in rural communities. We well know the prosperity of town and farm are closely linked.

We wish our farm families good weather and good cutting as the harvest continues. With wheat prices moving slowly in the right direction, we can anticipate a more prosperous harvest than we had hoped for.

Those are the kind of surprises we like. -DR
