Seven Trojans, two Warriors named All-MCAA softball team for 2006

Seven Trojans from Hillsboro and two Warriors from Marion-Florence/Peabody-Burns received all-league recognition from the Mid-Central Activities Association softball coaches this season.

The 18-3 Trojans landed one player on the first team, three on the second team and three who received honorable mention.

Laura Lindsay was one of three pitchers selected for the first team. The senior right-hander completed the season with a 10-2 record and an earned-run average of 1.49. She struck out 58 and walked 13.

Three Trojan sophomores were selected for the second team.

Jenesa Klose was picked for her work on the mound, compiling a 8-2 record with an ERA of 1.39. She struck out 42 and walked 19.

Amanda Bina was selected at shortstop. She led the Trojans in most offensive categories: batting (.552), slugging percentage (.955), on-base percentage (.656), hits (37), singles (20), doubles (9), triples (6), home runs (2), runs scored (44) and stolen bases (36). Bina struck out only three times while drawing 22 walks. She had a fielding percentage of .881.

Suzy Lindsay was picked for her work in the outfield. She batted .365, drove in 18 runs, stole 30 bases and scored 24 times. She had a fielding percentage of .750.

Three more Trojans received honorable mention: catcher Jessica Klose batted .436 with 26 RBIs and 25 runs scored; first-baseman Lora Andrews batted .184, drew 11 walks, drove in 13 runners and had a fielding percentage of .973; designated hitter Rachelle Goldsby batted .367 and scored 17 times.

For the 5-14 Warriors, Allie Maddox was picked for the first team, while pitcher Sonja Steinborn received honorable mention.

Catcher: Heidi Showalter, Lyons.

First base: Lauren Bohn, Hesston.

Second base: Coral Boyd, Smoky Valley; Ashley Espinoza, Halstead; Lindsay Doyle, Haven.

Third base: Betsy Banks, Smoky Valley.

Shortstop: Amanda Bina, Hillsboro.

Outfield: Britany Brady, Smoky Valley; Suzy Lindsay, Hillsboro; Julie Huxman, Hesston.
