Four TC seniors awarded for leadership, service

Four Tabor College seniors were recognized with awards for their leadership and service.

Julie Beam, Hillsboro, and Erica Hemmert, WaKeeney, received the Professor Fran Jabara Leadership Award during the Tabor College commencement ceremony Saturday.

Beam and Hemmert received a cash award and plaque in honor of their leadership skills, not only demonstrated during their time as Tabor College students, but for their potential leadership capabilities.

The Professor Fran Jabara Leadership Award began in 2001, and since then, only a handful of private colleges in Kansas have been invited to partake of this honor. Tabor College has now participated four years.

Meanwhile, Brian Lightner, Inman, and Rebecca Lutes, Wichita, received the President’s Student Service Award, an honor given to two members of the senior class who have demonstrated a commitment to service while at Tabor College.

President Larry Nikkel initiated the award in 2002, and again sought the help of faculty, staff and administrative personnel.

During the search process, Nikkel was looking for those who may have served formally as members of committees, clubs, boards, community service or informally in service to others as a normal part of their living in the Tabor community.

Lightner and Lutes were recognized with an engraved clock at the Nikkel & Dine senior dinner May 19.
