Tabor Lady Jays to host area basketball camp

ORIGINALLY WRITTEN
The first Tabor College Lady Jays Basketball Camp is set for May 31 to June 2.

Built on the theme “Integrity, Intelligence and Intensity,” the camp will cover basic basketball skills as well as teamwork, leadership skills and character development.

“We believe integrity determines the level of team unity achieved, intelligent play determines the level of offensive effectiveness and intensity determines the level of defensive effectiveness,” said Rusty Allen, camp director and head coach for women’s basketball at Tabor.

Allen has compiled a 102-51 record at Tabor and has twice been named the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. He will give special attention to post play.

Shawn Winter, assistant coach for the past four years, will be assistant director of the camp. He will give special attention to perimeter play.

The camp is open to girls who will have completed third grade through their junior year of high school.

Grades 3-5 will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., grades 6-8 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and grades 9-11 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Each session will include a short devotional. Age-appropriate emphasis will be given to offense and defense, including drill work, ball handling, shooting contests and live game situations.

The registration fee is $60 and includes a T-shirt. Registration must be sent by May 23 to the Tabor College Women’s Basketball Program, 400 S. Jefferson, Hillsboro, KS 67063. Checks should be made payable to Tabor College Women’s Basketball.

Registration is available on line at www.tabor.edu.
