A grand opening-Hillsboro Farmer’s Market off to a hot start on a cool evening

Despite overcast skies and cool temperatures, the Hillsboro Farmer’s Market drew an estimated 200 people on its opening night Thursday at Grand and Washington streets. “I think it was good-all the comments we heard were good,” said Sheryl Lehr, who is directing the new-and-improved summer market with her sister, Joni Calam, on behalf of the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce.

Lehr said vendors were pleased with the sales they made and others asked about becoming vendors in the future.”People who came personally sought us out and said, ‘This is such a good thing, We’re so glad you’re doing this,’ Lehr said. “That was fun to hear.”

The crowd estimate was based in part on the case of hot dogs that were cooked and sold during the evening-192 hot dogs in all, Lehr said. “Of course, some people had two.”

The Hillsboro Farmer’s Market will be open again from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. this Thursday-and every Thursday through summer, weather permitting.
