HES celebrates trees

The Hillsboro Tree Board celebrated trees and Hillsboro’s designation as a “Tree City USA” Tuesday, April 25, with fifth-graders at Hillsboro Middle School. Tree Board members Jonah Kliewer, Paul Jantzen and Cheryl Bartel were on hand to announce the winners of the annual Arbor Day poster contest (left photo): Amanda Fisher (far left) took first place and received a $40 gift certificate that can be used to purchase a tree; runners-up (from left) Kevin Dies, Josh Wiebe and Heather Mayfield each received a $20 gift certificate. Fisher’s poster moves on to the next level of competition. The other photos are on display in store windows in downtown Hillsboro as well as the Hillsboro Public Library.
