Tabor College drawing closer to Mabee challenge grant goal

ORIGINALLY WRITTEN
Almost halfway through the Mabee challenge grant phase of its capital campaign for new and renovated student housing, Tabor College has released its most current giving numbers.

As of April 18, a balance of $395,319 remains to meet the challenge. If these funds are raised by October, the J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation Inc., of Tulsa, Okla., will grant the college $750,000.

“With $395,300 remaining to complete the project, we are well on the way to meeting the goal of receiving the largest grant in the history of the college,” said Jim Elliott, vice president for advancement.

If the goal is met, said Elliott, the construction component of the campaign will be completed. Two other components remain: endowment and the Tabor Fund.

President Larry Nikkel believes the campaign is progressing nicely.

“We have moved steadily toward meeting the Mabee Foundation challenge,” he said. “It would be my hope that we have completed the challenge portion by early fall.”

Construction on the new housing facilities is scheduled to begin this summer with a groundbreaking ceremony in late summer or early fall.
