Bluejays complete regular season

The Tabor College tennis teams wrapped up their regular seasons on Wednesday against Southwestern College. The men won an abbreviated slate, 5-0, while the women lost, 5-3.

For the men, Michael Hagen beat Lazano 6-2, 6-2; and Aaron Friesen defeated Wilke 6-2, 6-1. Jason Reiswig, Chad Gayer, Andrew Braun and Chris Adrian did not play.

In doubles, Hagen and Reiswig defeated Lozano and Wilke 8-5; Gayer and Braun defeated Kearns and Hanson 8-2; and Shane Miller and Friesen downed Seward and Williams 8-5.

For the women, the day began on a sour note as all three doubles teams were defeated.

Laurel Delamater and Ashlee Helmley lost to Rankin and Crank 5-8; Danni Brucks and Jennifer Proffitt lost to Stinson and Peter 5-8; and Erin Wiebe and Erica Hemmert fell to Reynolds and Shahzada 5-8.

In singles, Delameter lost to Rankin 6-4, 4-6, 1-6; Helmley defeated Crank 6-4, 6-3; Brucks defeated Stinson 6-2, 6-3; Proffitt downed Reynolds 6-4, 6-2; and Wiebe lost to Pettey 3-6, 1-6.

Hemmert’s match was discontinued.

The Bluejay women finished the regular season at 9-5 while the men checked in at 9-7.

Newman-The Tabor College tennis teams traveled to Wichita last Monday to face Newman University. The men fell 5-4 while the Bluejay women won 7-2.

For the men, Michael Hagen defeated Hudnall 6-1, 4-6, 10-6; Aaron Friesen lost to McKeegan 1-6, 0-6; Reiswig defeated Oakes 6-4, 6-2; Chad Gayer lost to Martin 4-6, 2-6; Andrew Braun lost to Peterson 3-6, 5-7; and Shane Miller defeated Fox 6-3, 7-5.

In doubles, Hagen and Jason Reiswig lost to Hudnal and McKeegan 3-8; Miller and Friesen defeated Oakes and Martin 8-4; Chris Adrian and Gayer lost to Fox and Peterson 7-9.

For the women, Laurel Delamater defeated Matzen 6-1, 6-1; Ashlee Helmley defeated Lopez 7-5, 5-7, 10-6; Danni Brucks downed Alexander 6-1, 6-4; Jennifer Proffitt defeated Koochel 4-6, 6-4, 10-4; Erin Wiebe lost to Huntoon 4-6, 4-6; and Erica Hemmert downed Seiler 7-5, 6-2.

In doubles, Delamater and Helmley beat Matzen and Lopez 8-6; Brucks and Proffitt lost to Alexander and Koochel 8-9; and Wiebe and Hemmert beat Huntoon and Seiler 8-3.

Coming-The Bluejays open conference post-season play this week. On Monday, the third-seeded women defeated No. 6 Kansas Wesleyan 9-0 in Hillsboro in quarterfinals action.

The men will host Southwestern on Tuesday in Hillsboro in quarterfinals play.

Winners advance to the semifinals at Wichita’s Riverside Tennis Center.

The women will battle Southwestern on Friday and the men would play on Saturday against Friends University.
