Goessel boys second at Centre

The Goessel boys placed second and the girls fourth at the Centre Quint April 4.

“These boys are such hard workers and to finish second behind a much larger Marion squad is quite an accomplishment,” coach Sandy Banman said.

Brett Goerzen, Garrett Hiebert and Craig Banman all brought home four top-three finishes.Goerzen placed first in long jump (19 feet, 63/4 inches), second in pole vault (9-7) and third in the 100 meters (11.77 seconds). Hiebert won the javelin (173-0) and placed second in the 400 meters (55.69). Banman won the pole vault (10-8), was second in the 110-meter high hurdles (17.47) and third in the 300-meter low hurdles (44.55).

Courtney Berkholtz led the girls with gold medals in the 100 (13.48) and 200 (29.73) and was a member of the winning 4×100 team (57.44) along with Jessica Cleveland, Tricia Fensky and Jitka Vitova.
