First cowdog show draws 100 people

“Lou,” a short-haired border collie owned by Pat and Gordon Christensen, shows his skills in herding cattle upon command during the first Cottonwood Crossing Cowdog Trials at the Christensen ranch west of Durham. About 100 spectators and participants took in the event. Saturday morning brought 14 cowdogs to the competition, including dogs from Nebraska, Iowa, Oklahoma and Kansas. The event was intended to demonstrate the effectiveness of border collies and their effectiveness in handling livestock.”I’m really pleased that so many local people showed up for this event,” Pat Christensen said. “Most of them have never seen anything like this. It’s gone really well.”
