Goessel qualifies 29 for state music fest

Goessel High School qualified 29 entries for state competition during the 2006 Regional Solo & Ensemble Music Festival this weekend held at Tabor College in Hillsboro. The Class 1A state festival for solos and ensembles will be April 29 in Wichita.

GHS groups earning the top rating of “1” or “Superior” were: the Brass Choir, Girls Vocal Ensemble I, Flute Ensemble, Clarinet Quartet, Elbiata Singers, Saxophone Trio and Boys Vocal Ensemble.

The follow instrumental soloists earned a 1 rating: Thomas Murphy (trumpet), Amy Brubaker (clarinet), Jared Unrau (tuba), Kristin Unruh (flute), Chris Johnston (tenor saxophone), Scott Ferguson (tenor saxophone), Janessa Wedel (clarinet), Evan Fast (alto saxophone), Adam Goering (trumpet), Joylin Hall (flute) and Kyle Unruh (trumpet).

The following vocal soloists received a 1 rating: Allison Banman, Austin Unruh, Kyle Unruh, Brianna Unrau, Nate Amstutz, Janessa Wedel, Brittany Voth, Evan Fast, Cameron Voth, Kellen Jenkins and Ryan Goertzen.

Instumental soloists earning a II or “Excellent” rating were James Goerzen (trumpet), Chrystiana Voth (clarinet) and Laura Unruh (clarinet).

Vocal solists who earned a 2 were Joylin Hall, Sara Sebring, Krysta Yutzy, Scott Ferguson, Laura Unruh and Kory Hiebert.

The students are under the instruction of Greg Bontrager, choir director, and band director, Bud Meisel.
