Marion Middle School Scholars’ Bowl teams win league titles

Both the seventh- and eighth-grade Marion Middle School Scholars’ Bowl teams took first place at the MCAA quad at Lyons Feb. 21.

The seventh-grade team posted a 2-1 record in the preliminary round, won their semifinals, then won two straight from Lindsborg in the best-of-three finals.

Members of the team are Derek Stuchlik, Landon Leiker, Patrick Hodson, E.J. Obermeyer and Madison Chamberland

Leiker led the scoring with 140 points followed by Stuchlik with 125 and Hodson with 100. Obermeyer added 40 and Chamberland 30.

The eighth-grade team posted a 2-1 record in preliminary pool play and won their semifinals. The team lost the first of the best-of-three final matches to Lindsborg, but rallied to win the remaining two-the last one on a tie-breaker question.

Members of the team are Sam Ehrlich, Eric Vogel, Louis Holt, Colton Olsen and Lee Vogel. Ehrlich and Eric Vogel led the scoring with 180 and 160 points, respectively. Holt scored 50 points and Olsen 10.

The teams will compete at the Lindsborg Invitational Thursday, and then at the Goessel Invitational March 21.
