ORIGINALLY WRITTEN
The 60th semester of the Learning in Retirement Program at Tabor College will kick off Monday, Feb. 27, with two local entrepreneurs, Jacob Marshall, Peabody, and Cheryl Christian, rural Hillsboro, in a presentation titled “A Cut Above the Ordinary: Printing and Soapmaking.”

Coffee will be served preceding this first meeting, beginning at 9:30 a.m., in the Wohlgemuth Music Education Center. The program will begin at 10 a.m.

Upcoming sessions include:

  • March 6: “Building Habitat Houses for Humanity.” Wilmer Harms, Newton, who has helped build seven Habitat for Humanity projects, will bring slides and his tool belt to help those in attendance participate vicariously in this adventure.
  • March 13: “Experiences at Ground Zero.” While living in the state of New York, Lawrence Ressler, vice president of academics and student development at Tabor College, organized teams that served in the aftermath of the attack on the World Trade Center. He will share lessons learned as he worked among the smoldering rubble and with grieving families.
  • March 20: “Curry and Rice with Mennonite Brethren in India.” Tabor faculty member Lynn Jost, with his group of Tabor students and interested Hillsboro community people, will give an account from their recent three-week study tour.
  • March 27: “Family Folklore: Black Sheep and Kissing Cousins.” Peggy Goertzen, Tabor College archivist, will inspire everyone to study their family histories and discover unique family stories.

Older adults are invited to attend. Enrollment is $15 per person a semester, $28 per couple or $4 a session.

In an effort to encourage participation, first-time visitors will be admitted free of charge.

Registration and discount lunch cards will be available at the door.
