1A state tournament schedule conflicts

The success of the Fort Hays State basketball team is bringing a playoff game to Hays on Saturday, March 11. To accommodate this development, the Kansas State High School Activities Association has decided to move the final games of the Class 1A state basketball tournament up a day to Friday, March 10.

The change won’t affect the players much, but it could affect the fans of the teams who make it that far in the tournament. That could include Goessel and Centre.

A Friday championship game could become a hardship for fans and family members, especially parents, who want to watch their family members play but have to get off work to do so.

It’s too early to know whether either school will be represented in the state tournament, but I encourage fans of Class 1A basketball to contact the KSHSAA and ask the organization to make different arrangements for the final games of the tournament-either moving them to a different city, or even postponing them to a Sunday afternoon in Hays.

It would be a shame to be unable to support our teams.
