HHS frosh boys finish with 15-3 record

The Hillsboro High School freshman boys’ basketball team ended its season with a 15-3 record and third-place finish at the eight-team Haven tournament Feb. 11-13.

Hillsboro defeated Nickerson 76-33 in the opening round, then lost to Andale 52-46 in the semifinals before coming back to beat the hometown team to capture third place.

A week earlier, the Trojans won the four-team Moundridge tournament. Hillsboro defeated Hutch Trinity 56-37 Feb. 6 then beat Inman 40-37 in the championship game Feb. 9.

Members of the freshmen team were Jake Kenney, Clay Shewey, Thad Holmes, Daniel Jost, Andy Klassen, Elliot Soyez, Justin Wodke and David Loewen.

The team was coached by Doug Dick.
