Hillsboro closes home schedule with wins over Ellinwood

Hillsboro finished its home schuedule in fine fashion with a pair of double-digit wins over Ellinwood Tuesday in Brown Gymnasium.

The win was particularly significant for the HHS girls, who defeated a second-place Eagle squad, 64-54. Tina Frick, getting great feeds from her teammates, scored 16 of her 18 points in the first half to lead Hillsboro to a 33-25 lead at intermission.

JuliAnne Chisholm took the scoring baton in the second half, scoring 14 of her game-high 23 points.

Hillsboro salted away the victory with some pretty salty free-throw shooting down the stretch. Averaging around 50 percent from the line for the season, the Trojans made 12 of 14 charities over the final 3:04.

The win improved Hillsboro’s season record to 10-9 and its league mark to 5-5 while Ellinwood dropped to 13-4 and 8-2.

The boys, meanwhile, accomplished what was expected with a 70-40 win. The Trojans slowly by surely increased their lead as the night wore on. The quarter scores were 11-6 after one, 28-19 after two and 54-29 after three, thanks to a 26-10 domination during that period.

Nate Holmes came off the bench to score a career-high 19 points while Kyle Kroeker added 14. The win improved Hillsboro’s record to 13-6 for the season and 6-4 in league play It also broke a four-game home-court losing streak.
