The Hillsboro High School Varsity Scholars’ Bowl team finished with a 3-2 record at the 3A state tournament Feb. 11 in Rossville.
Team members were Robert Jost, Greta Kliewer, Victor Rogers, Clinton Schneider and alternate Hannah Shope.
In preliminary pool play, Hillsboro defeated Burlington 60-50, Lakin 70-60 and Oskaloosa 60-15, and lost to Wichita Collegiate 45-50 and Wichita Independent 20-90.
Wichita-Independent went on to defeat Northern Heights in the final round to finish in first place.
Hillsboro coach Stuart Holmes said seniors Jost, Rogers, Schneider, Shope, Greta Kliewer, Meredith Kliewer, Jacque Fisher, Daniel Bookless and Rick Johnson will be missed next year.
In seven meets this year, Jost correctly answered 239 questions for an average of 34 per meet.
“These seniors have had outstanding careers in scholar’s bowl and competed very well against the best in the state,” Holmes said.
“The competition was keen, and the kids should feel good about their efforts and accomplishments this year.”
