Trojans lose one, win versus Haven (Feb. 10)

ORIGINALLY WRITTEN DR
The Hillsboro basketball teams ended up on opposite ends of the win-lose spectrum Friday in Haven.

The girls fell behind by nine points at the end of the first quarter, thanks to some hot (8-for-10) Wildcat shooting, and ended up losing by 10 points, 42-32.

The margin between the two teams stayed fairly consistent the entire contest. The Trojans, who were playing without Hannah Marsh (out with the flu) was led by JuliAnne Chisholm’s eight points.

The loss dropped Hillsboro to 9-8 overall and 4-4 in the MCAA.

The Hillsboro boys, meanwhile, stepped up their play in the second half to move from a 16-13 lead at halftime to a 52-40 victory at the end.

Kyle Kroeker scored 12 of his team-high 17 points in the second half to lead Hillsboro. Providing strong support were Wade Weibert with 12 points and Lucas Hamm with 10.

The win improved the boys’ record to 12-5 overall and 5-3 in the league.
