Centre ag program yields honors

Students and a teacher in the Centre High School agricultural education program received several awards at recent events.

Ag teacher Gaea Wimmer’s food science curriculum was named overall winner in the Ideas Unlimited competition at the 2006 Agricultural Education Symposium Jan. 26-28 in Garden City and will represent Kansas in regional competition. Wimmer received first and second place in the curriculum division as well as third in the FFA division.

FFA member Nellie Hill finished first in the senior division at the K-State AgEd Club Speech Contest Jan. 21 in Manhattan. She received a plaque and cash award.

FFA member Alisha Barney’s Yorkshire hog finished eighth in its class at the National Western Stock Show Jan. 16-19 in Denver, Colo. Students who competed in the swine division of the show were Barney, Kristine Jirak, Ryan Richmond and Allie Will.
