The Hillsboro High School basketball teams came home from Sterling Friday with a pair of double-digits wins against the Black Bears.

The girls used an 18-3 second quarter to stake a 30-13 halftime lead. Even with a sub-par second half, the Trojans posted a 39-29 victory.

Hillsboro managed only nine points in that second half, thanks to 3-for-17 shooting and 14 turnovers in the final two quarters.

Audrey Weinbrenner had her most productive game of the season, scoring 13 points to lead Hillsboro — all of them in the first half. Hannah Marsh added 10 points.

The win improved Hillsboro’s record to 9-6 for the season and marked their fourth straight victory.

The Trojan boys, meanwhile, had a much easier time of it, defeating the Black Bears 59-31. Hillsboro scored the first 13 points of the ball game and never really were threatened. The Trojans led 18-5 after one quarter, 28-12 at halftime and 50-24 after three quarters. Most of the fourth quarter was played with a continuous clock after the Trojans stretched the lead to 30 points, 54-24, at the 7:11 mark.

Kyle Kroeker and Lucas Hamm were Hillsboro’s 1-2 punch on offense, scoring 16 and 15 points, respectively.

The win improved Hillsboro’s record to 11-4 for the season.
