Bruce Serene holds one of two trophies he won the weekend of Jan. 21 at the 49th annual Daryl Starbird Rod and Custom show at Wichita’s Century II. Serene owns both Shelby Mustangs shown in the picture, two of fewer than 1,000 in existence today. The two 1966 Hertz Rent-a-Racer cars were part of a fleet once owned by Hertz Rentals. Serene captured two of the five trophies awarded at the show, outdistancing 16 competitors in the Ford Factory Performance category and more than 300 automobiles entered in the entire show. Serene, owner of Vintage Shelby Restoration in Hillsboro, said this was the first time he’s entered a car in the show.
