It’s still well within our memory when Hillsboro had the reputation for having some of the worst city water around. Today, we have some of the best, if Environmental Protection Agency guidelines indicate anything.

At a recent Hillsboro City Council meeting, City Administrator Steven Garrett reported that the city’s water-treatment plant-even before the recent upgrades were begun-was the only water plant of its size in the state to meet the EPA’s strict goals for chlorination by-products in the water supply. Water-plant operators from around the region have been calling to find out Hillsboro’s secret.

Garrett rightfully gave credit to Morgan Marler, water treatment supervisor, and her team for their conscientious and creative efforts to get the job done right. We add our affirmation to his. When our civil servants go above and beyond the call of duty on our behalf, they deserve or thanks and a public pat on the back. -DR
