Check mail for appraiser’s property-assessment forms

ORIGINALLY WRITTEN
The Marion County appraiser’s office has mailed out about 3,000 of the 2006 personal-property assessment renditions.

The forms are for businesses, individuals and oil and gas operators who own taxable property and working oil and gas leases.

If you do not receive a form and own any of the aforementioned property, please contact the office and one will be mailed.

Because Kansas is a self-reporting state, it is the property owner’s responsibility to report ownership of personal property for taxation purposes according to Kansas law.

The appraiser’s office mails renditions as a courtesy reminder to render for the current year and to show what was rendered the previous year.

To delete an item if sold or disposed before Jan. 1, 2006, simply cross through it and let the office know when it was sold.

For items purchased after Jan. 1, 2005, and before Jan. 1, 2006, simply write the item purchased with retail cost if new or used acquisition cost on the rendition.

Late or non-filings will be assessed a penalty that is not subject to local abatement.

For more information or assistance in filing the form, contact the appraiser’s office at 620-382-3715 or toll free in Kansas at 1-800-305-8851.
