Hillsboro girls take third at Trojan Classic

Hillsboro girls used a 19-7 third quarter to transform the flavor of the game and went one to claim a 48-44 victory Saturday afternoon in the third-place game at the Trojan Classic.

Hillsboro trailed 27-19 at intermission, but a basket by Lora Andrews sparked a 13-0 run that thrust the Trojans into the lead for the first time since JuliAnne Chisholm scored 37 seconds after the opening tip.

Scoring only four points in the first half, Chisholm stepped up big time in the third period with 10 points, including eight in a row between the 4:55 mark and the 2:55 mark. She finished with 18 for the half and 22 for the game.

The two teams played evenly through the fourth quarter, but Hillsboro could have won more easily if it had made more than three of eight free thows over the final 1:13 — including misses on the front end of two one-and-one opportunities.

With the win, Hillsboro evened its record at 6-6.
