Marion County declares ban on outdoor burning

ORIGINALLY WRITTEN
In response to extremely dry conditions and dormant grasses, Marion County joined several other counties in central Kansas in banning outdoor burning.

The Marion County Commission made the decision at its Monday meeting after hearing a request for a ban from Mike Regnier, Marion fire chief, who addressed the commission on behalf of the county fire chiefs’ association.

He said vegetation and weather conditions are dry enough to warrant a burn ban.

The commissioners will decide on a week by week basis whether to continue the ban or lift it depending upon precipitation.
