HHS choirs, bands to air on KXKU 106

The 16th Annual KXKU Home Town Christmas, featuring high school choirs and bands, will be broadcast Christmas Eve and Christmas Day on radio station KXKU Country 106.

The Hillsboro High School Concert Choir and Spirit-N-Celebration, both directed by Lynn Just, and the HHS Band and Jazz Band, both directed by Gregg Walker, will be part of the program.

Knights to sponsor free-throw contest

All boys and girls ages 10 to 14 are invited to participate in the local level of competition for the 2006 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship, to be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, at the Centre High School gymnasium.

Winners of the annual free-throw championship progress through local, district and state competitions. International champions are announced by the K of C international headquarter based on the scores from state-level competitions.

Participants will compete in their own age groups and must submit an entry form with a parent’s signature and a copy of their birth certificate.

A parent should accompany each child to the 1 p.m. signup.

Participants can pick up an entry form at the competition or at one of the following locations: Centre Middle School, Hillsboro Middle School or Marion Middle School.

First Mennonite plans holiday events

First Mennonite Church in Hillsboro has several events planned for Christmas and New Year’s weekends.

A Christmas Eve service will be held at 7 p.m.

Sunday morning worship services will be held at 10 a.m. Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

No Sunday school classes will be held on those days.

A New Year’s Eve party will begin at 8 p.m. in the church fellowship hall.

The public is invited to attend.

Aulne UMC plans Christmas Eve service

Aulne United Methodist Church will hold its Christmas Eve program at 6 p.m.

The public is invited to attend.
