Warrior girls place third at Inman

The Marion Warriors girls placed third at the Inman Tournament with a 49-39 win over St. John on Saturday.

The Warriors made it to the third-place game by beating Inman in the opening round, 52-45, then losing in the second round to Garden Plain, 66-54.

Against Garden Plan, Marion trailed 10-7 after one quarter and 31-22 by halftime.

Toni Gordon poured in 21 points to lead the Warriors while Allie Maddox added 13 and Megan Hudson chipped in 10.

Against Inman, Marion led 16-12 after one quarter and maintained its four-point advantage at halftime, 24-20.

Inman crept closer after three period, 35-33, but a 17-12 fourth quarter advantage secured Marion’s first win of the season.

Allie Maddox led the Warriors with 17 points followed by Megan Hudson with 15.

Maddox and Toni Gordon led Marion in rebounds with six each while Kari Tajchman, Hudson and Erin Carr each came up with four steals.

The Warriors (1-3) were scheduled to play host to Halstead on Tuesday. On Friday, they will close out their pre-Christmas schedule with a game at Haven.
