HHS Scholars Bowl team third at Hesston

The Hillsboro High School Varsity Scholars Bowl team placed third out of 30 teams Nov. 29 at Hesston High School.

Team members included Robert Jost, Greta Kliewer, Meredith Kliewer and Victor Rogers.

In preliminary pool play, Hillsboro lost to Wichita Independent 60-70, then defeated Cheney 100-20, Hutch Trinity 55-20 and Wakefield 70-40.

Hillsboro was one of two wild card teams to advance to quarterfinals without winning its pool, because of a 3-1 record and total of 285 points in four matches, according to HHS coach Stuart Holmes.

In quarterfinals, Hillsboro defeated Maize 80-15 and lost to Andover 50-60 on a tiebreaker question.

Hillsboro then defeated Goessel 50-30 to take third place.
