‘Holly Days’ set for this weekend

Area holiday revelers and shoppers are invited to participate in the second annual Holly Days celebration in downtown Hillsboro on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 26-27.

On Saturday, shops in the downtown business district will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

A Main Street parade is planned for 11 a.m. The theme will be “Family Traditions,” and a special invitation has been made to local families to participate with a float depicting an aspect of their holiday practices or wishes. Prizes will bw awarded to the best entries.

A Snowflake King and Queen will be selected from the senior-citizen population based on nominations from Hillsboro Elementary School students.

Panhandlers Catering will serve soup and sandwiches downtown from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and a vocal group from Hillsboro High School will sing at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

A community Christmas tree will again be erected and decorated near Emprise Bank at the intersection of Main and Grand. A lighting ceremony and community carol-sing is planned for 6 p.m.

On Sunday, stores will be open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.. The schedule features a holiday home tour from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and a holiday table-setting display.

During the targeted times on Saturday and Sunday, Santa Claus will be making appearances and horse-and-carriage rides will be offered. Little Pleasures coffeehouse will be offering live music and several downtown businesses are planning special events within their stores.
