County organization receives state funds

ORIGINALLY WRITTEN
Gov. Kathleen Sebelius awarded more than $750,000 to 16 schools and community projects Sept. 29 to help keep schools safe and drug-free. Communities in Schools of Marion County received $54,030 of these funds.

The total of $753,924 was awarded through the governor’s discretionary portion of the Federal Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act grant program, funded by the U.S. Department of Education.

These efforts are designed to prevent violence in and around schools; prevent illegal use of alcohol, tobacco and drugs; and involve parents and communities.
